High Court Judge Yasiin Nyanzi has ruled that the court injunction issued early on Monday blocking the impeachment of Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago still stands.
Justice Nyanzi says the interim order issued by Acting High Court Registrar Fred Waninda, whom he ordered to do so, is now replaced by his own orders but restating the same. The order instructed Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze to halt convening the Kampala Capital City Authority—KCCA council meeting to vote Lukwago out of office.
This technically means Lukwago is still in office as Lord Mayor of Kampala, since the meeting that sat to impeach him is now null and void.
On Monday November 25, a special sitting of the Kampala Capital City Authority—KCCA council impeached the Lord Mayor accusing him of abuse of office, misconduct and incompetence. In a short session that lasted about 30 minutes and chaired by Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze, 29 councillors voted to impeach Lukwago, while three defended him.
